Bradley House built in 1892 (right)

His family was living in Lilley Row, at Irthlingborough, when John was born in 1885, but the family had moved to Finedon Road by 1901. For a short time he lived in Scarborough Road, but had moved to Rushden by 1911.

After WWI, with his business well established he moved to Bradley House in Griffith Street about 1926, and two years later moved again to "Nenehurst" in Kimbolton Road (now re-named Northampton Road).

Another move was made to "Haversley House" in Wellingborough Road which he had built in 1931.

But this was soon followed by a move back to Northampton Road to rename his former home as "Ferrers Mere" where he remained for another 30 years. He also bought land nearby for a farm in the 1940s.

During WWII, "The gates of my house, designed by Professor Richardson, were also to be taken down but he stepped in, said they were 'works of art', and we saved them. Women in our district were giving the oders to take them down - the Professor called them 'railing cats'. [railings at his Lime Street factory were taken]
