William James Osborne

William James Osborne was born c1857 and he married Emma Austin in 1883. William was born at Bozeat, and Emma at Earls Barton.

They had three children born there, Arthur, Florrie and Frank, but in 1897 they moved to Winchester Road, Rushden, where William is given as "living on his own means".

They moved in 1904 to Newton Road, on Court Estate. Their daughter Florrie became a school teacher, and later married John Dunbar, and son Frank emigrated to Australia. Frank returned to England to enlist in WWI.

Pte. Frank Osborne was killed in action in 1918.

William's wife, Emma died in February 1932 and William died just 6 months later. They were buried at Newton Bromswold Churchyard. Arthur inherited the family property.

"Peacehaven", No. 316 Newton Road, was a dairy and was built facing east. The scullery, on the left as you walked into the house down a step, was originally the dairy. Mr Arthur Osborne stored cow cake in the scullery, and the Graham boys, Harry and Michael, dug this out.

Arthur became somewhat of a recluse, but he owned several properties. He owned riding stables opposite "Peacehaven" and the Graham boys helped to look after them. Michael remembered a Shire named Captain and Hunter named Biscuit, and he ploughed fields that Mr Osborne owned.

Harry Graham became a rent collector for Mr Osborne's properties on the Court Estate, and also for Mrs Dunbar after she inherited her brother's estate.

Arthur died in 1943 aged 58.

Notes: 1911 Census - Arthur William Osborne aged 26 a Poultry Farmer was living with his Mother and Father, sister Florence who was an elementary school teacher, and brother Frank at the above address.
