The Rushden Echo, 17th January, 1913, transcribed by Jim Hollis
Respected Rushden Resident
Death of Mr. Geo. Willmott - A Link With The Past

Mr. George Willmott

A respected Rushden resident passed away on Monday at 3.30 a.m., in the person of Mr. Geo. Willmott, of Blowsic House, Wellingborough-road. For three months he had been bedridden with a most painful disease and the end came as a very happy release. The deceased gentleman, who was in his 68th year, leaves a widow, three sons, and two daughters to mourn his loss.

By religious persuasion he was a staunch Baptist and was a member of the Park-road Baptist Church, which place he had attended since childhood.

For the past 30 years Mr. Willmott had been engaged in farming, being in possession of many acres at Chelveston, Knuston, and the Manor Farm, Bedford-road, Rushden. His sons and daughters are all in the business. In addition to the farming, he had an extensive dairyman’s business and a commodious shop in High-street, Rushden, for the sale of dairy produce, fruit, poultry, etc.

The deceased gentleman was a native of Rushden and had lived here all his life. In politics he was an ardent Liberal, and was a staunch total abstainer. He was greatly respected as a tradesman and has had a most successful business career.

The Funeral

took place yesterday in the Rushden cemetery, the cortege first of all proceeding to the Park-road Baptist Church, where the first portion of the service was conducted by the Rev. H. J. Horn, who also officiated at the graveside.

At the service in the chapel many friends of the deceased gentleman were present to pay their last tribute of respect. Amongst them were Messrs. W. M. Hensman, Jonathan Austin, John Sargent, J. S. Clipson, James Sargent, C. E. Knight, S. Skinner, G. H. Skinner, W. Clark, S. Parker, Abraham Gadsby, James Clarke, Mr. and Mrs. I. Haigh.

As the coffin was carried into the chapel Mr. J. L. Clipson played in a feeling manner “O rest in the Lord.” A favourite hymn of deceased’s, “My heart is raised,” was sung, and at the conclusion of the service Mr. Clipson played Beethoven’s Funeral March.

The coffin, which was of oak, with brass fittings, bore the following inscription :-
