Mrs Catharine White

Rushden Echo, 2nd March 1923

The Interment took place on Tuesday at the Rushden Cemetery of the late Mrs Catharine White, aged 83, widow of the late Mr William White, who died 23 years ago, Mrs White having passed away yesterday week. She had kept to her bed only five weeks before her end. A native of Yelden, Mrs White about 40 years ago went to live in Duck-street, Rushden, in a house standing in a paddock near Wentworth-road. From there she and her family removed to the shop at the corner of Duck-street and High-street, where for many years they carried on business as greengrocers. About eight years ago, the sons having been in charge of the business for some time, they removed to 1 Wellingborough-road, Higham Ferrers. During the time the family lived at Rushden Mrs White was a valued member of the Zion Baptist Chapel. There are now left in the family three sons, two daughters, and eleven grandchildren. The funeral of Mrs White was conducted by Mr C H Gascoigne, of Wellingborough. A service was held in the Zion Chapel, Rushden, where a favourite hymn of the deceased was sung, and the committal service took place at the cemetery. The mourners were Mr and Mrs Walter White (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs E Shrives (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs William White, Mr and Mrs J White (sons and daughters-in-law), Mr William White, jun., Mrs Groom, Miss D Wood, and Mr A White (grandchildren), Mrs Bettles, Mrs Foster, Mrs Edwards, and Mrs Farmer (nieces).
Messrs Whittington and Tomlin carried out the funeral arrangements.

Rushden Echo, 9th March 1923

Memorial Service—At the Zion Chapel on Sunday evening a service in memory of the late Mrs Catharine White, for many years a valued member, was held. The preacher, Mr George Mackerness, of Nash near Wolverton, conducted the service made reference to the deceased. He said that Mrs White had been a most regular attendant at the chapel ever since it was built until failing health kept her away. Mrs White, a God-fearing, humble, quiet worker, had been a devout Christian whose influence was always for the good of those amongst whom she moved. The hymns sung at the service had been the favourites of the deceased, and they were chosen by the relatives, several of whom were present.
