Funeral of War Veteran
The funeral of Mr. Herbert Waller, of 19, Fitzwilliam St., took place at Rushden.
Aged 68 years, Mr. Waller had been in ill-health over the past five years. It was due to failing health that he retired in 1925 from the employ of Messrs. H. E. Wilmott and Co., Portland Road, for whom he was the rough stuff department foreman.
Mr. Waller was a veteran of the South African War. He served throughout the campaign in the Duke of Cornwall's Regiment.
A keen football supporter and darts player, he was member of the Feathers Inn darts team.
Mr. Waller died at his home on Sunday, leaving a widow, two sons and two daughters.
The funeral service was conducted at the cemetery chapel by the Rev. R. Percival Jones, of the Park Road Baptist Church. Mourners were Mrs. L. Waller (widow), Mr. R. Waller (son), Mrs. D. Scarborough, and Miss H. Waller (daughters), Mr. M. Waller (son), Mrs. J. Taylor (granddaughter), Mr. B. Scarborough (grandson), Mrs. I. Waller (daughter-in-law), Mr. T Scarborough (son-in-law), Mrs. J. Waller (daughter-in-law), Mr. A. Waller (brother), Mrs. N. Glidle, Mrs. E. Mead, Mrs. L. Penney and Mrs. M. Bird (sisters), Mr. J. Taylor (grandson), Mrs. P. Neal and Mr. W. Neal (cousins), Mr. and Mrs. R. Carter (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mrs. E. Moore (niece), Mr. A. Bird (brother-in-law), Mrs. Harris and Mrs. S. Green (friends).
The wreaths included one from the Feathers' Inn darts team.
