Notes sent in by Mr. E. G. Wood, 18, Higham Road, Rushden, are as follows:-
Your photograph in the “Rushden Echo & Argus” of November 29th is of Rushden’s old Volunteer Fire Brigade. It was taken near the lake at Knuston Park, about thirty-nine or forty years ago. The gentleman seated on the engine is the late Mr. Fred Ette, then the proprietor of the Feathers Inn, who used to supply the horses to the brigade. THE FEAST—Tuesday week last was the day selected by the several innkeepers of the village to entertain their friends and patrons, and Mr. J. Herbert, of the Wheat Sheaf, laid a most sumptuous spread before his friends, and 90 honoured him with their presence. After doing justice to the substantial viands Mr. E. Lewis was appointed chairman, and was ably assisted by Mr. Ward, and a social and convivial afternoon was spent in harmony and goodfellowship. Mr. Wood, of the Wagon and Horses, very ably catered for about 50 of his friends who did ample justice to the good things provided.
After lunch Mr. T. Childs was called upon to preside, and a social afternoon was spent. Mr. Ette, of the Feathers, also entertained 60 of his friends at lunch at the Feathers, and Mr. T. White presided over a very social party. [extract from an article about the Feast]

COX'S ELEVEN v. ETTE'S ELEVEN—On Saturday last a match was played in Mr. Skinner's Mill Close (kindly lent for the purpose), between eleven chosen by Mr. E. Cox, of the New Inn, and eleven by Mr. Ette, of the Feathers Inn. Cox's team won by 56 runs. Scores: Cox's team, first innings 55, second 42; Ette's, first innings 19, second 22.

AUXILIARY BENEFIT CLUBS—The "Friend in Need," held at the Feathers Inn, celebrated their club feast on Tuesday, when 29 members sat down to a good dinner, provided by Mrs. Ette. This club had a drawback of 9s. 11d. each member.—The club held at the New Inn also had their feast on the same day, when 62 members sat down. The income for the year was £31 8s. 3d., £5 18s. had been paid away for sick pay, and a dividend of 10s. 3½d. each was declared.
