Rushden Echo & Argus, 7th July 1922, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr Thomas Tailby
Impressive Funeral at Rushden – A Well-Known Baptist

The funeral took place on Saturday of the late Mr Thomas Tailby, Denmark-road, Rushden. A short service was held in the Park-road Baptist Church when the Rev J A Sotherland, in a few short and well chosen sentences, spoke of the life and character of their friend, who had been connected with the Baptist Church in Rushden for than 60 years. His hobbies were temperance and music, and he always took an interest in the welfare of the church.

Many past and present members of the choir were present at the service, and Mr Lindsay Clipson, A.R.C.O., was at the organ. The hyns “How blest the righteous when he dies” and “Our life is led with Christ” were sung. Mr George Denton, Mr C L Bradfield, Mr Fred Knight, J.P., Mr and Mrs J F Knight, Mr George Tailby, and most of the officers of the church were present. Many representatives from the B.W.T.A., Sunday Meeting and Mothers’ Meeting shewed their sympathy by their attendance.

The mourners were: Mrs Tailby, widow; Mr George Bayes, brother-in-law; Mrs and Mr Loakes, Thrapston, daughter and son-in-law; Miss Gross, Burton Latimer, neice; Mr A Hale, London, nephew; Mrs Linnitt, sister-in-law; Mrs Fred Bayes, sister-in-law; Mrs Reeves, friend; and Nurse Billingham. At each service on Sunday in the Park-road Baptist Church the choir sang in references to the deceased “What are these?” and in the evening “Round about the starry throne.”

Mrs Tailby and Mr and Mrs Loakes wish to express their gratitude to their friends for all kind enquiries and expressions of sympathy.
