Risdene Echo, June 2020 (The Journal of Rushden & District History Society)
Brian Shelton
March 2020

BRIAN had been a member of the Society for a very long time. He served on the Committee for many years, taking on the role of Chairman for 2005 and 2006, and later on was our Speaker Finder - fulfilling that position in his usual, dedicated fashion - always managing to find speakers with something particularly interesting to tell the members.
In recent years, Brian had more than his fair share of health issues and had several stays in hospital.
But, ask Brian how he was, and he would always smile broadly, laugh, and say that he was "All right!".
By all accounts his passing - just a few months ago - was probably 'long overdue', but being a fighter to the end, we were able to enjoy his company at Society meetings, together with Margaret to whom we extend our deepest sympathy, and also to their wider family.
He will be sorely missed.

Brian arranged the Society outing to visit the National Memorial Arboretum in 2008, and several others. Whilst he was speaker secretary, during the summer months, he tried to complement the talks with a visit; perhaps a guide from an historic property, followed by a visit to the building and gardens associated, in the same month. He was also a member of the WEA and joined several groups of the U3A.
