The Late Mrs. Robinson
Impressive Funeral at Rushden – An Old Rushden Family


The funeral took place at the Rushden Cemetery on Monday afternoon of Mrs. Robinson, of High-street, Rushden. The deceased, who was 68 years of age, died shortly before midnight on May 21st. She was the widow of the late Mr. Joseph Robinson, a cab proprietor, who died about 12 years ago. For over 30 years Mr. and Mrs. Robinson occupied the premises at the corner of High-street and Church-street, the widow carrying on a green-grocery and beer retailing business after her husband’s death.

Mrs. Robinson belonged to an old Rushden family, being a sister of the late Mr. John Jaques, of the late Mr. Vincent Jaques, and of Mrs. G. Tailby, of The Limes, Stanwick. Deceased, who leaves four sons and two daughters, all of whom reside in Rushden, had been ill for about three years, and she had been confined to her bed since last September. She was well known throughout the town and was highly respected.

The Rector (the Rev. Arthur Kitchin, R.D.) conducted the funeral, which took place at three o’clock. The mourners were:-

Clarke and Mrs. John Jaques (son-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr. T. Jaques and Mrs. H. Spavins (nephew and niece), Mr. W. Pack and Mrs. A. Stevenson (nephew and cousin), Mr. J. Twelvetree and Mrs. M. Jolley (brother-in-law and cousin), Mr. Eli Robinson and Mrs. Pendered (nephew and niece), Mr. J. Barley and Miss Twelvetree (nephew and niece), Mr. and Mrs. Cobley (friends), Mr. J. Cobley and Mr. Childs (nephews).

The coffin was of polished English elm with brass plate bearing the inscription:-

Elizabeth Robinson.
Died May 21 1908.
Aged 68 years.

Messrs. Clark and Sanders were the undertakers. The coffin was covered with a handsome display of wreaths. [a list of inscriptions follows]

The family of the late Mrs. Robinson wish to thank all friends for their expressions of sympathy with them in their bereavement. May 27, 1908.
