Mrs. Abigail Perkins

We regret to report the death of Mrs. Abigail Perkins, widow of the late Mr. Thomas Perkins, and proprietress of the Railway Hotel, Rushden, who died from bronchitis on Friday at the age of 77. Mrs. Perkins was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Judkins, of Everdon, Northampton, and married Mr. Perkins in February 1864. They had three sons and four daughters, all of whom are living.

Mr. Perkins took the Railway Hotel 35 years ago and upon his death on April 9th 1900, Mrs. Perkins kept on the business. Her second daughter, Mrs. Chettle, has lived with her for eight years. The funeral took place on Wednesday. The rector (the Rev. P. Robson) officiated and the first part of the service was held in St. Mary’s Parish Church. The principal mourners were Mr. E. Perkins of Margate (son) and Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Perkins of Wellingborough (son in law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. H. Mathieson of Watford (son in law and daughter) Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Ferrabee of Syston (son in law and daughter); Mr. J. Perkins and Mr. S. Perkins (sons) Misses Ruby Chettle and Audrey Perkins (granddaughters) Master Clifford Perkins (grandson) and Mr. W.H. Judkins of Southend on Sea (nephew). Messrs. Rands (Oakley Arms) A. Dyke (Rose and Crown) T. Fuller (The Feathers) W.H. Wilkins (Waggon and Horses) C. Dixon (Unicorn) and T.F.B. Newberry (The Compass) were representing the licencees.
