Minnie Meadows

The death took place yesterday at 1, Mannings-street, of Minnie Meadows, the three-months’ old twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Meadows.  It appears that Mrs. Meadows had gone downstairs at about 8.15 a.m. to get her husband’s breakfast, when she heard one of the children crying.  She went upstairs and gave the bottle to the child that was crying but noticed nothing amiss with the other child.  About 1½ hours later, Mrs. Meadows again went upstairs to feed the other child, when she noticed that it was black down the right side of the face and the right arm, and that its fists were tightly clenched.  She called her husband to her assistance and then ran for a neighbour, Mrs. Glidle.  The latter at once came and put the child in a bath of mustard and water up to its knees, but these efforts proved unavailing, as immediately afterwards it passed away.  In the meantime Mr. Meadows had gone for Dr. Baker, but the child had expired before his arrival.  An inquest is being held this afternoon at the Compass Inn.
