Rushden Echo, 23rd October 1908, transcribed by Kay Collins
Death of Mrs. C. M. Fisher
A Rushden Family Bereaved

It is with deep regret that we have to record the death on Saturday last of Mrs. Fisher, wife of Mr. C. M. Fisher, of Wellingborough-road, who was for many years in business as a watchmaker in high-street. The deceased lady, who was within a few days of reaching her 75th birthday, was the daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Rootham, of Yelden. She was educated for the teaching profession at the Home and Colonial College, London, and held appointments in Surrey and Northamptonshire prior to her marriage. Her last appointment was at Hargrave, Mr. Fisher’s native place. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher lived at Grantham, Lincs, after their marriage, but removed to Rushden in 1868. For the forty years which have elapsed since then they have enjoyed the respect and esteem of the community in the highest degree, and much sympathy is felt with the bereaved family in the loss they have sustained.

Mrs. Fisher leaves one son, Dr. C. R. Fisher, and one daughter, Miss B. A. Fisher. Dr. Fisher who is on a visit to England from the U.S.A., expected to return about September last, but when he found his mother’s illness became serious he gave up his collegiate appointments in America for the present session.

The deceased lady was a member of the Old Baptist meeting (now Park-road Baptist Church), by transfer from Grantham Baptist Church. She had been ill for practically 12 months with a complication of disorders and it has been realised for some time that there was little hope of her recovery.

The Funeral

took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Cemetery and was preceded by a short service at the deceased’s residence. The rev. R. H. Colwell was the officiating minister, in the absence of the Rev. W. F. Harris, through illness. The principal mourners were: Mr. C. M. Fisher (husband), Dr. C. R. Fisher (son), Miss B. A. Fisher (daughter), Mr. Arthur Ashby (nephew), Mrs. Ashby, Miss K. Rootham and Miss A Rootham, of Stanwick (nieces), Mrs. Fellows and Mrs. Berrill, of Wellingborough. The coffin, which was of oak, with brass furniture, bore the inscription:

Born Oct. 22nd 1833,

The wreaths bore the following inscriptions:
