Mrs Martha Crane

Mrs Martha Crane, of 38 Higham-road, Rushden, who passed away on Monday at the age of 75, was highly esteemed both in Rushden and Higham Ferrers.

She was a native of Odell, Beds., being the youngest daughter of the late Mr James Fennell, of Odell Post Office. She had lived in Higham Ferrers and Rushden 51 years, and her husband, Mr Joseph Crane, baker and confectioner, died in December 1928. For 38 years Mrs Crane had been associated with the business in Higham-road, Rushden. For the past 12 months her health had been failing, and she had kept to her bed about six weeks.

There are four children—Mr Herbert Crane, Rushden, Mr Raymond Crane, London, Miss Beatrice Crane (living at home), and Mrs B C Line, Bedford.

The funeral took place on Wednesday at Zion Baptist Chapel, and was conducted by Mr John Marriott, Leicester. There were two hymns, "Come let us join our friends above," and "There is a land of pure delight," Mrs Keeble playing the organ.

The mourners included Miss Crane and Mr H A Crane (daughter and son), Mrs Line and Mr R Crane (daughter and son), Mrs H A Crane and Mr B C Line (daughter-in-law and son-in-law), Mr W Crane (brother-in-law), Mrs Osborn (niece), Miss M Obsborn (niece), Mr and Mrs J Fennel (nephew and niece), and Mrs G Wadsworth (niece). Friends present included Mr D Hipwell, Mr A Holland, Mr H Webb, Mr H Saint, Mr H Caton, Mr Newell, Mr D Nicholson, Mr and Mrs J Northern, and others.

Messrs Whittington and Tomlin carried out the funeral arrangements.
