A life of dedicated service
AS the chief executive of East Northamptonshire Council, Derek Adnitt was a loyal servant of the region for many years.
Mr Adnitt, who was found dead at his Wymington Road, Rushden home on Monday, May 21, held the post from 1973 until his retirement in 1987.
During his time at the council Mr Adnitt, who was 72, courted controversy, once having his knuckles rapped by the Ombudsman over a land wrangle at Raunds, and causing a stir when he hired private detectives to patrol Rushden car parks.
Former council leader and close personal friend Allen Goulsbra said: "He was a super bloke - a man of few words but a good friend.

"He was a hard worker, who did a lot for people round here."
Mr Adnitt had used a wheelchair for the last three years because of acute back problems. He also suffered from cancer.
He leaves no immediate family as his wife Gwen passed away late last year after having a stroke.
Mr Goulsbra added: "At the end we would take it in turns to go and see him for a chat.
"I had my coat on to go and visit him when there was a call to say he has died. It's very sad. Many people have fond memories of him."
The funeral service will be held at Kettering Crematorium in Rothwell Road tomorrow, at 3.45pm. Any donations should be sent to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund through A Abbott and Sons, Independent Funeral Directors, Bedford Road, Rushden.
