OBITUARY Dr J W Whitney, a well-known figure in the town, died on Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs Copson, in Park Road, at the advanced age of 80 years. The funeral took place at the Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev E J Keely Wright conducting the service. The chief mourners were the immediate relatives, with Dr Freeman, an old friend. The coffin was of English Elm, with brass fittings, and the breast plate bore the inscription:- “John Wright Witney, died September 12th 1909, aged 80 years.” The wreaths were inscribed as follows:- To my dear father, from his sorrowing daughter “His end was peace”; In loving memory of a dear friend, from Annie; With deepest sympathy, from Mrs Walker, Laura and John. Messrs Clark and Sanders had charge of the funeral arrangements. |
