Mr and Mrs W E Griffin
Reach Golden Wedding
Well known to The Police


Well-known in the county among police circles, ex-Police Constable W E Griffin and his wife, who reside at 5 Fletcher-road, Rushden, celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday. They were married at St Mary’s Church, Stoke Bruerne on February 13th 1893, by the Rev. Mr Harrison.

For 28 years Mr Griffin, who is a native of Blisworth, served as a police constable in several parts of the county, being Wellingborough nine years, Oundle four years, Towcester, Higham Ferrers and Rushden. He joined the force on December 1st 1892, and retired on June 30th 1920.

Mr Griffin has an interesting record as a sportsman. He won many prizes at police sports for cycling and walking. One year at Northampton he walked against the great Larner, a police constable from London, and finished second. A member of the Spencer Park Bowling Club and won the Thurston Cup  …………..
