A large company of friends assembled at the Park-road Baptist Church, Rushden, on Monday morning to witness the wedding of Miss Clara Groome and Mr Wm Thomas Lloyd Flood. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr John Groome, of Queen-street, and has been a member of the Park-road Baptist Choir, and a teacher in the Sunday School. The bridegroom is the eldest son of the late Mr Wm Alfred Flood, of London. He has also been a member of the choir; and vice-captain of the Baptist Cricket Club.
The service was conducted by the Rev W F Harris, Mr Geo Farey was the organist, and in addition to other appropriate music played Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March.” The hymns, “The voice that breathed o’er Eden” and “O love divine and golden,” were sung.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was tastefully costumed in white silk voile, trimmed with silk lace and orange blossom, and wore a white hat, also carrying a handsome bouquet of white roses and lilies. Her four bridesmaids were Misses Violet Groome (niece of the bride), Gwen Mansell (cousin of the bridegroom), and Ada Groome (niece of the bride), and Miss Pearson (cousin of the bride). They wore dresses of champagne muslin, with large hats trimmed with pink roses. Each carried a bouquet of white roses and pink sweet peas. Mr B C Tomkins, of London, cousin of the bridegroom, and son of the late Rev W J Tomkins, was the best man. A reception, at which a large number of guests assembled was afterwards held at the Waverley Hotel, and Mr and Mrs Flood left by the 3.53pm train for Wickersley, near Rotherham, Yorkshire, where the honeymoon is being spent. Mrs Flood’s travelling costume was of navy blue serge, trimmed with white cloth, and navy blue hat, with white feather boa. A large collection of handsome and useful presents were received.
