Notes of the Week

Lovers of music will note with pleasure that the Temperance Band give a concert on Sunday evening, for which occasion they have secured the services of Mr. G. F. Birkenshaw, the eminent soloist, Mr. Geo. Farey, and Miss Ellis, and we would again remind our readers of the performance of the Messiah to be given on Tuesday Next.

In 1891 George was living in Park Road with his parents, Joseph and Hannah, and aged 24, working as a clicker.
George later lived at 39 Grove Road, with his wife Jessie M who was a teacher at a private school.
They had a daughter Pauline in 1892.
He emigrated to Canada and died around 1913.

Extract from his father's obituary in 1919: For 41 years Joseph Farey was the Baptist choir conductor and under his conductorship the choir won several prizes at the Crystal Palace and one at Northampton. His son, the late Mr. George Farey, also a very accomplished musician, held the position of organist at the Baptist Church for 20 years before he left to go to Canada where he died six years go.
