Considerable interest was manifested in the marriage, which took place at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, on Saturday, of Miss Margaret Ette, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ette, of 45 Newton-rd., and Mr. Alfred F. Clement, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Clement, of Leith, Scotland. The Rector (the Rev. P. Robson) officiated.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly gowned in ivory crepe de chine, with Tuscan hats trimmed with egg blue ribbon. It was anticipated that the duties of best man would be discharged by Mr. Charles Ette, of the Royal Flying Corps (brother of the bride), but, unfortunately he was detained through Friday night’s enemy air raid, and did not arrive in Rushden until after the ceremony.
Mr. J. E. Smith presided at the organ, and played appropriate music as the guests were assembling and as the bride and bridegroom left the church. Subsequently, a reception was held at the bride’s home, and later in the day, Mr. and Mrs. Clement left for London, where the honeymoon is being spent. The bride’s travelling costume was of navy blue, with navy and lemon hat. Mr. and Mrs. Clement were the recipients of numerous expressions of felicitation in the shape of costly and useful wedding gifts. The bride was formerly a teacher in the Newton-road Infant School, Rushden. |
