Scouts Receive Highest Award

QUEEN'S Scout badges were presented last night to two Rushden and two Higham Ferrers Scouts, at a social evening held by the Rushden and District Boy Scouts' Association and B.P. Guild of Old Scouts at the Waverley Hall, Rushden. [see picture above right]

Mr. Martin Lamb, the county Field Commissioner, presented the badges—the Scout movement's highest award—to Roger Miles (18), 50 Bedford Road, Rushden, John Collins (17), 125 Cromwell Road, Rushden, Michael Millar (17), 52 Bedford Road, Rushden, and Robert Reynolds (17), 94 Northampton Road, Higham Ferrers.

Roger and John are members of the 2nd Rushden (St. Mary's) troop, and Michael and Robert are in the 1st Higham Ferrers.

Tests

To get the award each scout had to pass a number of specialised public service tests on subjects such as first aid and fire-fighting. Next time the scouts meet, the four boys will have the badge, bearing a crown, sewn on their left sleeve above their first class badge.

Souvenirs from
Sutton Coldfield

One of the four, John Collins, has a further honour later in the year. He has been chosen as the one to represent the district at the world jamboree of scouts at Sutton Coldfield in August [1957]. The Jamboree marks the centenary of Lord Baden-Powell and the jubilee of the scout movement which he formed.

M.C. for the evening was Mr. Charlie Jones.
