Anniversary reunion - January 1983 - Diamond Jubilee
Rushden guides, past and present, crowded St. Mary’s Church on Saturday for a service to celebrate their 60th anniversary.

More than 200 people connected with the 2nd Rushden St. Mary’s Guides heard a special service and then met for tea and a talk about old times in the new church hall.

One of the organisers, Mrs. Marie Burton, said the event was a tremendous success — old friends met and swopped addresses and new guides were able to hear about the early days.

The group was founded on January 30, 1923, and has always had a large following. Today there is a full company of 36 guides.

Mrs. Burton and two assistants, Mrs June Head and Miss Vicki Crook, traced as many former members as they could to take part in the occasion.

After tea Mrs Frances Craddick who was a guide in 1932, cut the birthday cake and then films were shown of previous camps. A number of old photographs were also on display to bring back memories.

Chief guests were county commissioner Mrs Jane Campbell, assistant commissioner Mrs Shirley Sheppard and divisional commissioner Mrs Lilian Anderson.
