Rushden Factory Knock-Out
The Printers Pass Easily Into the Final Frost’s Hat-Trick
Printers defeated R. Marriott's, last year's winners, by 81 runs in the semi final of the Rushden Factory Evening Knock-out Competition, played on the Town ground on Monday.
Spencer and Hunt opened the Printers' innings and Hunt was soon out for 4. Toms did not stop long either, but his successor, Hodgkins, made a long stand with Spencer. Hitting all round the wicket, Spencer was very aggressive, and soon after Hodgkins' dismissal, when the score stood at 73, Spencer was bowled by Purser for 62.
Frost joined Smith, and these two scored very freely during the time they were together taking the total to 95. Frost was caught by Thorpe, and the same man caught Cook after he had scored 4. Hinson was caught first ball off Inwood, and Smith, running out to "smash" the last ball of the innings, was stumped by Hindmarsh after making a useful 14.
Marriott's were set 130 to pass, Inwood taking 4 wickets for 26, and Cade 2 for 27.
R. A. Marriott and Cade opened Marriott's innings, Cade being dismissed in the second over. Bad luck ran Bayes out. He played a ball which struck him in the face, and being called, started to run but was too dazed to get "home" in time, and a smart return whipped off his bails.
Twelve was scored by Marriott before he was run out, but no-one else offered much resistance to the Printers. In the last three balls of one of his overs, Frost took the middle stump right out of the ground each time, bowling Thorpe, Hindmarsh and Ingram. In the innings he took 4 wickets for 16, and Toms took 3 for 31.
