Rushden Notes
CHRISTMASThis town has assumed its usual festive appearance during the past week, signs of Christmas being everywhere apparent. The bands as usual heralded Christmas Day with their music, the Temperance Band, the National, Salvation Army, and the Town String Band each paying their customary round of visits. The bell-ringers, too, rang their customary peals, and a new feature was the singing of the Primitive Methodist carollers, who were round early on Christmas morning, the proceeds derived from which are to be devoted to the chapel extension fund. At the places of worship on Sunday special sermons were preached, and at the P.S.A. the subject was "Santa Claus". As regards the teas, the Old Baptist Chapel Band of Hope held their annual treat, and the old people of the parish were entertained to a capital repast, followed by a meeting, by the Young Men's Class and Christian Band at the same place. At the Succoth Baptist Chapel a public tea was held on Thursday. |
