£129,000 Loan for Sewage Works

Rushden Urban Council is to borrow £129,190 for improvements to the town’s sewage disposal works.

When the work is completed in 1965, the rate pertaining to sewage disposal, based on current figures, will probably increase by about 1s 4½d in the £ to a rate of 1s 10½d.

Any changes in the town’s general rate by 1965 will, of course, depend on the terms of the new valuation list to be operative from next April.

On Wednesday the council learned that the lowest of four tenders last considered by the public health committee, was “very considerably in excess” of the surveyor’s estimate when the scheme was approved in February, 1959.

The council approved a tender from Lindum (Lincoln) Ltd. for the work at a provisional sum of £137,376, subject to ministerial approval and to modifications suggested by the surveyor which will result in an estimated saving of £13,504.
