Councillor

Rushden Chairman
Mr. W. Bazeley J.P. Honoured by the Urban Council

W Bazeley
Mr Wm Bazeley J.P.
In Rushden general approval will be accorded the appointment of Mr. William Bazeley J.P. to the chairmanship of the Urban Council. Past experience has shown that although Mr. Bazeley is an uncompromising supporter of the Labour Party he is not the man to let political feeling interfere with the dignity and impartiality that are expected of a municipal chairman.

A native of Ecton, Mr. Bazeley has lived in Rushden since 1887. Twenty one years ago he was successful in a Council election and since then he has invariably been well placed at the polls. Chairman in 1908-9 he then gained experience that will now be of great value to him. In that year, it may be mentioned, notable street improvements were made in High Street South and at the bottom of Fitzwilliam Street.

Mr. Bazeley was for years a tower of strength to the Boot Operatives Union, from which, in 1918, he retired after 14 years service as branch secretary. For a time afterwards he was election agent to the Wellingborough Division Labour Party. Mr. Bazeley has been a member of the Old Age Pensions Committee since its inception, and he was made a Justice of the Peace for the County eight years ago.
