1916

 

10 Jan

The school re-opened this morning with 109 present.

18 Feb

Mr Sanders visited the school this afternoon and checked the registers.

25 Jan

The attendance has been very poor this week on account of a heavy fall of snow.  Percentage 81.

10 Mar

I was absent from school upon this date on account of personal illness.

13 Mar

The school in not heated today as the Contractor cannot obtain a supply of coke.

I cannot work by the timetable as the children are so cold.  I am therefore taking games, marching etc.

30 Mar

The school was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday 28th and 29thinst by order of the managers on account of the heavy fall of snow.

13 Apr

I have received notice that the school will close on the morning of Thursday April 20th for the Easter vacation and will re-open on Monday May 1st.

 

Scheme of Work for year ending April 30th 1917

 

The scheme of work is identical with that set out on page 277 (75) with the exception of the nature lessons for classes 1 and 2 which are as follows

01 May

I sent 32 children into the Mixed Department this morning.  There are now 94 children on the books.

05 May

I found two children Ruby and Jessie Norris of 14 Fletcher Road to be verminous.  I excluded them from school and the Attendance Officer Mr Mantle has placed this matter in the hands of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

15 May

The above mentioned children returned to school today.  I received an assurance from the Medical Officer of Health that they have been cleansed.

18 May

H M Inspector Mr Northrop visited the school this morning.

02 Jun

I have received notice this morning that the school will be closed at noon on June 9th for the Whitsuntide vacation and will re-open on Monday June 19th.  Mr Mantle visited the school this morning.

22 Jun

A medical inspection of special cases took place in the school this afternoon.

Five children have been absent fro school this week suffering from measles.

26 Mar

Miss Sharp has been absent from school today as she is suffering from a severe cold.  In her absence her class will be divided between Miss Norman and myself.

02 Apr

As there are only 58 children present this morning (125 on registers) I have not marked the registers.  A Heavy fall of snow accounts for the poor attendance.

I shall send all of the children into the baby room and get their clothes dried and then take them for games and stories.  It is not possible to send them home to be dried as the majority of the mothers are working in the factories on war work.

02 Apr

I have heard from Miss Sharp this morning to the effect that she will not be able to return to school until after the Easter vacation on account of personal illness.

03 Apr

I have received notice that the school will close for the Easter vacation on Thursday the 5th inst. At noon and re-open on Monday 16th.

16 April

The school re-opened this morning after the Easter vacation.  Miss Sharp resumed duties after her illness.

01 May

I have sent 40 children into the Mixed Department this morning as the school year commences today.

Number now on roll 93.

 

Scheme off Work for year ending April 30th 1918

 

The scheme will be found set out on page 277 (75) with the following exceptions.  The lessons on Nature entered for Class 1 will be taken by Classes 1 and 2.  The Babies will have no set nature lesson but will have chats upon weather conditions and upon natural objects suitable to the season.

The school re-opened this morning with 103 children present.

11 Sep

A circus will visit the town this afternoon and the following arrangements have been made regarding registration and dismissal to enable the children to visit it.

School will be dismissed this morning at 11.30.

This afternoon school will be commenced at 1 and registers closed at 1.05.  Children dismissed at 2.45.

21 Sep

The school will be closed this afternoon until Wednesday next for the Feast holiday.

28 Sep

16 Jan

This morning on account of a very severe snow storm only 23 children attended school.  I received orders from the Chairman to close the school for the day.

17 Jan

Owing to the continuance of the snow storm only eight children put in an appearance this morning.  By the order of the Chairman the school will be closed for two days.

23 Feb

On account of an epidemic of chicken pox and also of whooping cough the attendance is very poor this week.
