Rushden Echo & Argus, 16th September 1949
Metalwork class
Metalwork is a special subject at Rushden’s new school for boys —the first complete prefabricated school in the district.

The first classes began this week in a finely-equipped centre, where Mr Glover, the metal work expert,
is seen explaining the
use of apparatus.

School Boys in Paris
Accompanied by four adults, 32 pupils of Rushden Secondary Modern School for Boys are on holiday in France.

They left Rushden by coach early on Wednesday morning and travelled by train and boat from London to Paris, where they are spending six days.

They are staying on the outskirts of the French capital, at a boarding school at Les Lilas.

Their programme includes tours of Paris historical and modern, and a visit to the Palace of Versailles.

The second part of their holiday will be at St Malo, on the coast, and from there they will go on further excursions, including one to Mont St Michel.

Boys dig in for future

GREEN-FINGERED youngsters at Rushden Boys' School planted 30 trees around classrooms yesterday.

The school has been making efforts to improve the environment for more than two years — and the tree planting was the latest phase. Headmaster David Middlewood said: "We are strong believers in environmental education and we have carried out many alterations to the buildings recently.

"The boys have been involved in such things as decorating, putting up fences — and now planting trees." This week was chosen because it is National Tree Week — and all the plants have been donated by local garden centres.

The batch of 30 trees includes silver birches and conifers.
