Co-operative Fish and Chip Saloon

Fish shop

Rushden Echo, 28th April 1922, transcribed by Kay Collins

Fire broke out yesterday about 10p.m. at the Co-operative Fish and Chip Saloon, Newton-road, the oil in one of the pans becoming ignited owing, it is assumed, to a lighted fragment falling down the vent. The Rushden Fire Brigade being summoned, were on the scene inside two minutes, and damped out the flames with wet sacks. Little damage was caused. The Brigade members present were Capt. R. F. Knight, Second Officer W. Packwood, Engineer Green, Firemen Whiting, Timpson, Smith, Jacques, and Payne.

Rushden Echo & Argus, 22nd January 1932, transcribed by Kay Collins

Fish Shop Fire—On Saturday night, at the Rushden Co-operative Society’s fried fish shop in Wellingborough-road, a large frying pan burst into flame, the fire spreading up the flue. The staff worked coolly to prevent a spread until the arrival of several members of the Fire Brigade, who got to work with “first aid” appliances and quickly stopped the fire. The damage was not serious.
