Marriotts Plan to Double Size of HQ

With the recent purchase of a further two acres of land adjoining the company’s base in Rushden from the British Road Services, Robert Marriott Ltd, the well-known building company, is now planning a major development of its headquarters.
Building of a new administrative office block is to start early in 1967 for completion by the end of the year.
However this is just the first phase of a ten-year development programme being planned to match the company’s expansion.
In this connection Marriott’s turnover has increased some 100-fold in the past 20 years, and four months ago the company took over Building and Construction Co. Ltd, of South Wales.
The reason for the phased programme over a period of years is dictated not only by considerations of staff and employee requirements, but also the installation of efficient modern methods.
Requirements
As Mr. E. A. Brook, the managing director, explains: “It is practical to project the future requirements of our transport, plant, joinery and other similar departments, but the possible purchase and use of a computer could well transform other departments.
“Indeed we are already employing computer time in planning numbers of our projects. Thus we have to maintain flexibility in our planning.”
In the meantime the company has employed architects to lay out the total headquarter site.
