Two Hairdressers Salons Close in 2017

At the start of 2017, Rushden seemed to have had an over proliferation of hairdressing salons. It seemed a mystery to most folk that there was a living to be made by so many.

But at least the numbers were "trimmed" back by the closure of two such shops by the end of January of that year.

The first one to close was situated at 65 Robinson Road, and traded until its closure using the modern trend of putting uncoventional spellings of salon names etc; this one was named "Cizzor Cutz". It was located on the corner of Robinson Road and Kings Place, and had been serving the area for the best part of 40 years.

The plastic signage above the windows has been stripped away to reveal the wooden framework, this can been seen in our shots.

The last day of trading for the one at 33 Church Street was Saturday 28th January; their name was a quirky one called "Hairsclusive". The roller shutters are now down, and some of the former staff have 'gone mobile'.

This building had been a salon dating back certainly to the early part of the 1960's, in contrast to the modern salon names, such emporiums to a ladies crowning glory in cities, went under ultra creative sounding domain names such as "Raymond of Knightsbridge” and “John Cornell of Mayfair" etc.

The one in particular in the building at number 33 was called "Eric Ruckley", and over the road, but still in Church Street we had "Helen Buttling" at number 10.

Perhaps these former names reflected the manufacturing feel of the town back in those halcyon days, and let’s not forget the gents who could have been offered something for the weekend by "George Majerski" at 156 Wellingborough Road!
