Alfred Francis & Mrs Elizabeth Francis

In 1903 Alfred Francis, was trading as a wardrobe dealer, at 4 Oakley Road, with his wife Elizabeth (nee Smith, born at Aldwincle), and they had five children. He moved to Higham Road in 1908/9, and they also opened a general store next door. Their daughter Ellen was living with them, and grandson Jack, and Elizabeth's brother William was lodging with them. Alfred was working as a engine driver in 1911 with Rushden Urban Council. Ellen would have been helping Elizabeth in the business, as after 1914 the general store is trading under the name of Mrs Elizabeth Francis in the trade directories.

In 1930s they ceased trading, and an auction sale was held.
