Electricity

Mercury and Herald February 14th 1947, transcribed by Richard Hall

Rushden & District Electric Supply Co. Ltd.

National Fuel Crisis

As the use of electricity for domestic purposes is now illegal between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 noon and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. the Sunday mid-day cooking load will cause serious overloading of the distribution system in the Companies’ rural districts.

Unless the amount of cooking between 12 noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday is considerably reduced local breakdowns of the supply will occur, and owing to the shortage of spare plant a period of some months may elapse before supply can be restored.

Consumers in rural areas are therefore requested in their own interest to exercise the utmost economy in the use of electricity between the hours of noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday, and do no cooking on that day which can possibly be done on any other day of the week.
