To all the Co-operative Non-Members
of Rushden

Past History
The Rushden Co-operative Society has had a varied career. At the present time it stands as a prosperous Society, and is well spoken of throughout the whole district. Hundreds of people speak its praises because they have received its benefits.

Old Methods
The old has given place to the new. Under the old conditions a person joining the Society was unable to receive any dividend until the two £1 shares were fully made up.

Result
Many people paid their entrance fee, and dealt at the store for a time, but not being able to see any benefit, by not receiving any dividend, soon forfeited all right to being recognised as a member.

Methods
The new replaces the old. The line of action now followed is a great improvement on the old. We do not now ask you to complete your shares before you draw any dividend, but as soon as it is due you are entitled to a portion of it.

The Course Adopted
A person pays one shilling as entrance fee. The first quarter their purchases amount to probably £5. With our present dividend of 1/10 in the £ there will be 9/2 due to the member. Instead of all this being entered in their book as formerly, only 3/3 is entered and the balance of 5/11 can be withdrawn at once.

The Course Pursued
The second quarter the same will be repeated, this making 6/6 in the book, and whatever balance there may be above the 3/3 can be withdrawn as before.

Result
At the end of 12 quarters, viz. 3 years, the two shares will be completed, and an interest of 5 per cent, per annum will be added each quarter. Not only so, but by the end of this period the member will have actually drawn £. 11s. 0d. as balance dividend due above the 3/3 left in the book quarter by quarter.

Experience Proves
That this policy is a wise one, as it has induced a great many people to join the Society. But we still want more. Not from any selfish motive, but for the good of the people. If you are not a member of the store, you are depriving yourself of a great many benefits which you might otherwise enjoy.

Benefits and Advantages of Co-operation
By becoming a member of a store.

1st.     You save money without effort by means of the dividend.
2nd.   Your savings obtain a higher interest than can be had with equal security elsewhere.
3rd.    You obtain pure foods and goods of guaranteed quality at the usual market prices.
4th.    You obtain all the advantages which large capital has over small.
5th.    You share in the profits which are made by the trade which is done.

Be wise then and for your own benefit join the store; support it, and it will support you.

The store will enrich you if you will allow it. Pay your shilling without delay and become one of its members.
