J. Clarke - Pork butcher
The shop (right) is now a house.

John Clarke came to Rushden in about 1900. He had been born in Northampton in 1871 and married Charlotte who was from Rothwell. He traded at 48 Grove Road until his death on 20th April 1924 aged just 53.

she is continuing the business of

His wife carried on the business until the Second World War. In the 1950's the business was trading as T. M. Clarke. The shop next door at number 50 was a bakery and grocery run by James Britten and his family.
