Wm Fred Bayes married Harriet Smith, of Riseley in 1889, and was a baker. In 1911 the family is living at 59 Little Street, and there are 9 children. Lizzie aged 18 is mother's help, Joseph 17 baker's assistant, Annie 13 mother's help, William Fred (jun) 11, Charles Edward 9, Harriett 7, Clara 6, George Ernest 5, are scholars, and baby John Smith Bayes is 9 months. His parents had moved to Griffith Street. Fred and Harriett are buried in Rushden Cemetery Grave C156:
Joseph Arthur Bayes took over the bakery when his father died in 1919 aged 51, and by now his brother, Charlie, was also working in the trade. The firm was then known as Bayes Bros.
When their mother died the boys built a new bakery in Little Street, and the old property was sold to Mr Sherwood who kept an antique shop. Mr Sherwood used the old bakery as a his workshop for renovating furniture.
