Rushden Echo, 17th March 1916, transcribed by Gill Hollis
StrikeOn Monday a number of bricklayers struck work, demanding a rise of 1d per hour, viz., 8½d instead of 7½d. The masters offered 8d but the men at first refused to accept the rise of a half-penny, but on Tuesday a deputation was given the opportunity of discussing the matter with the master builders, and ultimately the men accepted the compromise, the masters having pointed out that if they accepted the offer of 8d their pay would thus be brought on a level with the carpenters.
