Rushden Congregational Church – Opening of a New Organ

The musical accompaniments of the Rushden Congregational Church have for a long time been found to be inadequate to lead the singing of the increasing congregation, and the church has now taken a very important step in obtaining a comparatively new organ at a cost of considerably over £100. The organ is to be purchased from the Baptist Chapel, Thrapston. It will stand about 12ft. high and will be 9ft. wide. It is also to be slightly altered, and will be perfectly up-to-date. The organ previously stood in the gallery at the Baptist Chapel, Thrapston, but on account of the alterations it was found necessary to remove it downstairs. This arrangement, however, was not in accord with the altered state of the building, and consequently the church has been obliged to sell it.

The organ will stand at the right-hand side of the preacher at Rushden, and will prove to be of great use in the musical part of the services. The members of the Congregational Church are to be congratulated upon taking so important a step. The musical portion of the service at present is led by a harmonium. The organ is to be erected in August. It contains 25 pipes and is a handsome-looking structure. When erected it will prove a dignified acquisition to the building, and the members of the church will be able to congratulate themselves that they are not behindhand in looking after the wishes of the congregation. It will also prove a welcome addition to the P.S.A. services that are held so successfully in the winter months.
