On June 30th 2009, a memorial was erected inside the church, to the 19 Americans who died in the plane crash on March 24th 1944. A bomber with eleven crew, leading a mission to Frankfurt, crashed onto a Nissen hut where eight soldiers were sleeping, and a farm where two children also died.

A special Guard of Honour accompanied relatives of the airmen, villagers and the brother of the two children into St Mary's Church where the plaque was unveiled.

After the church service, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Lancaster, a Spitfire and a Hurricane, flew over the church at 3pm.
