Rushden Echo, 9th March 1917, transcribed by Kay Collins

A Memorial Service was held in the Church last Sunday evening, for Pte. George Wagstaff, Beds. Regt., who was killed in action on Feb 16th. The service was very solemn and impressive. The deceased, who was the only child of the late Mr. George Wagstaff, had lived at Yelden all his life. He was only 22 and was very robust and strong. He worked previous to the war on the farm of his uncle, Mr. J. Wagstaff. He was a regular Churchgoer and communicant. One very pathetic incident is that his widowed mother only died a month since, her death being no doubt hastened by anxiety for the boy at the front, who was her sole support.
