Bozeat Registers
1706-1729

The old registers were lost in a great fire in 1729 so a new register book was bought and begun from Lady Day 1729. The earliest Bishops Transcripts for the whole county were also lost so this small transcript is created from the surviving BT’s which pre-date the register, but these too are lost for 1710 & 1714-17. Some entries have a “P” added and almost certainly stands for pauper.

All common Forenames e.g. William, John, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, are spelt in the modern English form and expanded if contracted in the register, but less common forenames and all Surnames are spelt as in the original. Before 1752 the Year is upgraded for January/March. In the index C = christened/baptised, N = born, M = married, B = buried, D = died.

Other registers may have been done for the project Personal Names Database, or 'PND', being compiled by the Northamptonshire Family History Society.
These transcripts are also included in the PND, and searches are available through the NFHSoc.

Notes from the Parish Register
The name is thought to come from the fine
spring water - "Beau jet". There have been many
spellings, such as Bosyate, Bosiate, Bozet.
The church dates from the early 12C.
