My great-grandmother Ruth was from Dilton Marsh in Wiltshire. She and Joseph were married at the Holy Trinity Church in Dilton on 25 November, 1890. During my family research I found a direct link with Wiltshire and the Baptist Chapel in Stanwick. My grandfather and grandmother were life-long members of the Chapel. I know at one time Joseph and Ruth were members too but later went to St. Laurence Church. Ted, who died in WWI, helped build a small wall in front of the Chapel (long gone now) and somewhere (with cousins probably) there is a photo of him building the wall.

The Chapel was founded in about 1840 and in 1842 three people from Ludgerhall Wiltshire by the name of Walcot wrote their Profession of Faith along with nine other people all with very familiar Stanwick names. Ludgershall was where my great-great-grandparents lived. I have a copy of the original Profession of Faith and copies of documents showing membership of the Chapel. I found them at the Northampton Record Office when I was there the last time I visited my family. I also have a group photo of Chapel members taken about 1948 at some kind of party at the Chapel. Lots of people I remember seeing in the village and my grandmother and Ruth’s brother Uncle John are on it.
