Mr J S Newell, of 6, North-end, Higham Ferrers, has received news from official sources that his third son, 22547 Pte. It is a month yesterday since any communication was received from the missing soldier, and his relatives had begun to feel anxious concerning him, and to fear that he had met with some mishap. The official message that he is missing was received on Wednesday morning.
Pte. Paul Newell enlisted last November, when 28 years of age. He celebrated his 29th birthday in the trenches last July, having gone to the front in April. He was employed prior to joining the colours by Mr Roberts, currier, Higham Ferrers.
His brother, Pte. Percy Newell, Northants Regt., was wounded on July 14th this year at Trones Wood, and subsequently succumbed to his wounds on July 22nd. Mr Newell has three other sons with the coloursPte. Sidney Collis Newell, Royal Fusiliers, at present in Scotland, Driver James Horace Newell, R.F.A., stationed at Harrogate, and Pte. Leonard Herbert Newell, A.S.C., now on his way to one of the fighting fronts.
Mr Newell and family are in much anxiety concerning Pte. Paul Newell, and would be glad of any further information concerning him that any of his comrades can send them.
