On the day following the death of her husband, Mr. Oliver Middleton (announced in last week’s ‘Echo and Argus’), Mrs. Mary Ann Middleton, of 18, Wharf-road, Higham Ferrers, died at Northampton General Hospital at 8p.m. last Friday. She was 81 years of age.
Mrs. Middleton, who had been ill for a month, had not been told of her husband’s death, but her daughters Mrs. B. M. Fletton, of Rushden, and Mrs. M. Corbett, of Higham Ferrers, had intended to break the news to her last Saturday.
A native of Rushden, Mrs. Middleton worshipped for some years at the Park-road Baptist Church and later at the Higham Ferrers Baptist Mission.
Mr. Middleton and his wife were interred together at Higham Ferrers on Monday afternoon. The Rev. T. W. Gill, minister of the Rushden Park-road Church, conducted a service at the house, and the Rev. H. G. Reynolds (Higham Ferrers Methodist Church) officiated at the graveside.
Family mourners were: Mr. S. Middleton and Mrs. B. M. Fletton, Mrs. M. Corbett and Miss Feazey, Mr. B. M. Fletton and Mrs. Quincey, Mr. W. Middleton and Mrs. Pashler, Mrs. S. Middleton and Mrs. Barfoot, Mrs. Sykes and Mrs Hall.
Mr. S. C. Miles, G.M., and Mr. W. B. Belcher, P.G., were present, representing the Loyal Earl Fitzwilliam Lodge of Oddfellows. A number of bedesmen also attended. The Rushden Park-road Baptist Church und the Higham Ferrers Baptist Mission were represented by the Rev. P. F. Boyd, Mr. J. Sykes, and Mrs. S. L. Hunt.
