Ringstead Fusilier Killed in Action
News has been received in Ringstead of the death at the front of Pte. John Herbert Archer, of the Royal Fusiliers, son of the late Mr. Arthur Archer, of the New Inn, Ringstead. The news came in a letter from Pte. Burgess, who is in the same company as the deceased soldier, and stated that Pte. Archer was killed whilst cleaning his rifle, after going “over the top.”
Pte. Archer is the second of the Ringstead lads who joined up since the war broke out to fall. He enlisted last June, and went to France in December. He was 20 years of age.
