Boot & Shoe Trades Journal, Sept 1905

A. E. WRIGHT. HIGHAM FERRERS.

The above firm has been established for the past ten years, and started business in a small way, removing six years ago to the present commodious factory, where they produce home and export goods of a best and medium-class in great variety. This season Mr, Wright has introduced the "Unona" boot, which is a very ingenious one. and is cut in one piece only. The design is registered, and the new boot will doubtless become very popular. It is produced in all materials and fittings, and looks very neat and effective. Mr. Wright is a member of the Higham Ferrers Town Council, organist of the Parish Church, and has been a chorister all his life. He leads a busy life, and is a very proficient musician.

Mr A E Wright’s Employees
The employees of Mr A E Wright, of Higham, also met last night at the Trade Club, Rushden, Mr C Bates, Branch President, being in the chair.

There was a good attendance. The Chairman made a statement in similar terms to that made by Mr Bazeley at the Rushden meeting, and a report as to the number of unionists employed was prepared.

c1910 - MR. A. E WRIGHT began the manufacture of footwear about 20 years ago in a small factory in Higham Ferrers. It is now some 18 years since he moved to a larger factory in this Ancient Borough, and by close attention to business, and a thorough knowledge of the trade built up a very substantial connection. Unfortunately in March this year the premises were destroyed by fire, but nothing daunted, Mr. Wright commenced again at once in temporary premises, and prepared plans and made arrangements for a new and improved factory. This will be on the one floor system, and promises to be ready for occupation in six months' time. There will be more than double the capacity for producing those lines which have won for themselves considerable favour, and all the latest and best machinery will be installed. The firm do a medium class trade, and do it well, and with the kind indulgence of customers a good start will shortly be made upon the best lines, and with new styles and shapes to meet the needs of all and sundry. Mr. Wright lakes a keen interest in all that appertains to Higham Ferrers, and is a devoted member of the town and trade.
