ARMY BOOT AND SHOE TRADE—After the formation of a section of the Amalgamated Boot and Shoemakers' Union at Raunds, Messrs. D. Stacey and G. Baker, the deputation, paid another visit to this village on Thursday evening. A public meeting was convened in Major's paddock at the top end of the village, when Messrs. Stacey and Baker addressed the men on the advantages to be derived by uniting for the protection of their interests in the trade. Mr. George Smith took the chair. Some mission work was then done amongst the men, and the meeting was adjourned to Saturday. On Saturday afternoon Messrs. Stacey and Baker again addressed a meeting of the army boot and shoemakers, convened in the same place, under the presidency of Mr. G. Smith. A resolution was passed for the formation of a section of the union for the villages of Ringstead, Woodford, Addington, and Denford, and affiliating it with the Amalgamated Society of Boot and Shoemakers. The following officers were chosen:—President, Mr. Geo. Smith; secretary, Mr. J. Pearson, jun.; treasurer, Mr. W. B. Weekley; committee, Messrs. G. Sharman, Joseph Fox, and James Cope. The admission of members followed and 12 paid the entrance fee.
