Raunds Gunner Missing

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Seamarks, of 3 Westfields, Raunds, have received news that their son Gunner Fred Seamarks, who has been serving for two years in the Middle East, has been reported “missing.” Gunner Seamarks joined the Royal Artillery nine months before he was sent abroad and was formerly employed by Messrs. Blandson Ltd., heel manufacturers, of Stanwick. He is aged 25, and is an old boy of the Raunds Council School.

Raunds Soldier a War Prisoner
A Raunds soldier, Pte. J. A. Harwood (20), of 9 Close-street, missing at Arnhem, is now reported by the War Office to be a prisoner in Germany. This news has been received by his wife, Mrs. J. A. Harwood.

Previously a member of the Duke of Wellington’s Regt. when stationed in Northamptonshire, he joined the airborne forces in March 1944. Pte. Harwood’s wife has received a postcard and a letter from her husband since the official notification.

Wounded Twice in Six Months

A Raunds soldier, Trooper E. Butler, who is serving on the Italian front, has been wounded twice in six months. Trooper Butler was wounded in both arms last September, and now his parents, Mr, and Mrs. J. Butler, of Barn Close, have received official intimation that he has been wounded again. Tpr. Butler has been serving with the Royal Armoured Corps in Italy since last May. He joined the Army in December, 1941, and went to North Africa the following April, serving throughout the Tunisian campaign. Educated at Raunds Council School, he was before joining the colours a clicker employed by Messrs. J Horrell and Son, Raunds, and a member of the Home Guard.
