Residents of Avenue Road in 1935

Street numbering was not introduced until 1951 so the properties had names, or were simply known only by the residents' names.

Several old bungalows had the roof raised to add an upper storey, and many of the large plots have been sub-divided.

A shop was built next to the bungalow in about 1950 and a Post Office was added when Beryl & Ossie Keys came in about 1970.
The shop and bungalow were demolished in 2006 and two very large houses now fill the plot.
196a
The bungalow next door was specially built in about 1971 for Beryl & Ossie Keys' daughter who suffered from mulitple sclerosis and was in a wheelchair.
After the Land Sales in 1900, several plots had new buildings erected, later the plots were sub divided and now there are very many more. Some have been altered beyond recognition, some bungalows have had the roof removed and an upstairs built. The oldest property, Rushden Lodge was demolished about 2000 and a new house built on the site. Higham Park Lodge had earlier been used for Manor Court sittings hence the name Court Estate.
