Rushden Echo, 9th July 1915, transcribed by Gill Hollis
The Volunteers (C Company, Rushden) at their parade last Sunday morning, made a collection amongst themselves on behalf of a member of the company, Pte. B. Dean, who has been ill himself for several months and who buried his only child last Friday. The collection, which was taken on the initiative of Sergt. Jolley, by permission of Commandant R. F. Knight, realised 13/6. Pte. Dean has sent the following letter in acknowledgment of the money: “I feel I must thank you for your kind assistance to me, in my time of illness, through the kindness of Sergt. Jolley.”
