Volunteers pre WWI on the steps at the Cricket Pavilion c1914
Thought to be taken in 1914 and probably Volunteers of the Northamptonshire Regiment, 1st or 2nd Batallion Volunteers. Some had served in the Boer War - seated at the front wearing their medals. All are wearing red armbands "GR" some are youths, and others much older men.
Rushden Volunteers 'O' Company protested in 1908 against their disbandment.
In 1915 a register was compiled of some of the Volunteers who joined a Training Corps in Rushden, and they were known as Rushden's 'Gurkhas'.
